My Closet Taught Me a Business Lesson

The new 20/20 rule

We recently moved our lives to a new house.

And let me tell you, moving isn’t just about boxing up your life; it’s a battle with your past.

Especially if you're like me - keeping clothes like they’re artifacts.

Every T-shirt, every cap, they’re not just fabric. They’re milestones of our brand. Each one tells the story of an idea born, a risk taken, a f*ckup magically transformed into a triumph.

So, tossing them feels like erasing chapters of my story.

As I debated over which pieces of my brand's history to keep (a process that took me longer than the moving itself), I stumbled upon the "20/20 rule":

If something can be replaced within 20 minutes and/or for less than 20 euros, it’s time to say goodbye.

Mind. Blown.

This mantra isn’t just for decluttering your wardrobe. It’s a gold mine for business, too.

Think about it. How many tasks are you doing just because they feel integral to your brand’s story?

How many of these could you delegate for less than the cost of a dinner out, freeing your creativity for the real game-changers?

It’s not just about cutting costs or saving time.

It’s about prioritizing your energy. Investing it where it counts.

Building, dreaming, expanding.

I realized I was holding onto tasks like old sneakers - out of sentiment, not strategy.

So, here’s your nugget of wisdom, served with a dash of irony from someone who once couldn’t part with a single hoodie:

Apply the 20/20 rule to your business. If a task can be outsourced efficiently, let it go.

Your future self, dreaming up the next big thing for your project, will thank you.

Because, at the end of the day, it’s not the tasks we complete but the visions we bring to life that define our legacy.

Here’s to making space for the ideas that move us forward,

Carpe Diem,

Tino
