I hate Elvis.
But what is hate worth if it’s free?
Colonel Tom Parker was a genius. Elvis Presley’s manager.
One day, he showed his idea for pins.
“I HATE ELVIS pins???”
“Yes,” he said. “Those who hate Elvis will do so - whether we profit from it or not. After all, what is hate worth if it’s free?”
That’s the secret. Polarization. Turning detractors into profit.
It’s a bold move.
I’ve always believed in this power. Polarizing can be a strong tool. It divides.
But it also unites. Creates passion. Sparks conversation.
Imagine a world where everyone agrees.
Boring, right? No debates. No fire. No growth.
In my book, I have a whole chapter about this. Life is Porno was built on this idea. Our brand name itself is polarizing. Some love it. Some hate it. But no one ignores it. That’s the key.
People talk about it. They argue about it. They remember it.
Embrace the hate. Let it fuel you. Let it bring attention to your cause.
Not everyone will love what you do. And that’s okay. Those who do, will love it fiercely.
We’ve had our share of controversy. And we’ve thrived on it.
Because we understand that polarization isn’t a weakness. It’s a strength.
Think about your own projects. Your own ideas.
Are they safe? Are they universally liked? Or do they challenge people? Make them think? Make them feel?
If you’re playing it safe, you’re missing out. Safe is forgettable. Polarizing is memorable.
So next time someone criticizes you, thank them. They’re giving you free publicity. They’re making you stronger.
After all, what is hate worth if it’s free?
