Never Quit on a Bad Day
A principle from a school principal. And it might change how you see quitting.
I found myself sitting in the school office.
And I was the one being interviewed.
Not for a job.
For a spot—for my son.
Choosing a school these days? It's alchemy.
Especially when the school is also choosing you.
Palms sweaty. Mom’s spaghetti.
I was more nervous than my kid.
They didn’t ask about academic performance.
They asked about our values. Our parenting style.
Because their approach is different.
It’s not focused on pressure, comparison, or chasing achievements.
It’s about joy in learning. Curiosity. Relationships.
And if you’re the “tough love, push harder” type—
it just won’t work out.
Not for your kid. Not for the teachers. Not for you.
And then the principal said something that stuck with me.
Something his wife once told him:
Never quit on a bad day.
Simple. But it hit me hard.
Because right now, I’m in the middle of a project that’s having… well, a lot of bad days.
At first, the struggles were fuel. We pushed. We fought. We stayed up late.
But when the momentum disappears and the results don’t show up—bad days stop being a challenge.
They just become heavy.
So now we’re at a crossroads.
Keep going? Or quit?
And this little quote from the principal is echoing in my head.
Don’t quit in the middle of the storm. Quit when the sky is clear.
When you’re calm. When it’s a decision—not a reaction.
I don’t have the ending to the story yet.
Maybe we’ll quit.
Maybe not.
But one thing I know for sure:
There are bad days. And then there are decisions.
Don’t confuse the two.
